Commemoration Ceremony – Memorial Gates

On Monday 8th March 2010, Peter Virdee was given the honour of laying a wreath at the Memorial Gates, Constitution Hill.

The Memorial Gates were officially inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen on 6th November, 2002. Every year since, a remembrance ceremony has been held here. This year's ceremony was attended by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, other dignitaries and representatives of former colonies, as well as veterans and serving military.

This annual event is unique in bringing together people from all of the Armed Forces and of all ages, nationalities and faiths in remembrance. It pays tribute to the huge contribution made by the five million men and women from the Indian subcontinent, Africa and the Caribbean who volunteered to serve with the British Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars.
